Opinion, Politics, Vermont, absurd, education
In a past post here (tax ‘em till it burns), I was aghast that our esteemed legislators were musing on a bill restricting teens from patronizing tanning salons - another nanny state action. Silly me, I thought it was an original idea (and here is the “source” from the source)! But apparently it’s an “us too” syndrome. Or maybe, once elected, state legislators need guidance: OK now what do we do? Well, there is an organization that can help them out!
Apparently, the National Conference of State Legislatures has been around since 1975 helping to formulate “issues” for our state legislators to ponder. Their website is interesting - particularly the page on “issue areas“; it will give us a heads up on the various and sundry things we should be concerned about. Honestly, some of this stuff is pretty scary reading. Yet I can’t help but think that the people touting these “ideas” are really sincere about them! Go figure!
I don’t know about the rest of Vermont, but when evaluating candidates for the state legislature, I don’t recall “tanning salon” hazards and regulations as a hot point of political rhetoric. In fact, had it been a campaign issue at all for one choice or an another… The problem is … the well known nice guys and gals were elected! And from my district, school teachers! Yup, they’re all about reigning in these school budgets!
