Politics, Vermont, absurd, critical thinking, economics, education, global warming, taxes
One of the gadgets I have parked on my personalized Google homepage (now “iGoogle”) is “Quotes of the Day“. A current one is telling…
“One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity, there ain’t nothin’ can beat teamwork.”
- Edward Abbey
This is apropos to the guys and gals in Montpelier.
I’m discouraged precisely because I do not understand how elected legislators can miss so wide of the mark. Surely they - individually - must reel at the excessive taxes? Much of them attributable to our exorbitant education system - yet they can’t seem to do anything to ease the burden. Why is that? Is it possible they are immune from these unending tax increases? They tax at will - capriciously.
Gov. Douglas has to veto the Vermont Yankee debacle. Taxing - again - the best thing Vermont has going for it is simply absurd. If our legislators think “profits” are a bad thing that must be taxed - we’re in deep trouble. For a state that hopes to bolster its “economy” by attracting “green technology”, taxing the piss out of a nuclear plant that has tirelessly and safely been pumping out energy without adding to the global greenhouse gases certainly sends a big message.
I’ m discouraged and I guess that’s why I haven’t been adding my meek opinion to the local blogsphere much lately.
