vitriol for all

Following the 2007 Weblog Awards – Best Science Blog category has been quite an education! Between the AGW proponents and the “deniers” there’s a “blog war” going on. There’s not much in the way of science but there’s a lot of puffery and posturing. Most of it boils down to who’s more credible (PhD’s, peer review, consensus, blah blah) with almost no regard for “facts”!

It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Climate Audit, but among the self ordained scientists – and they are self ordained after all (only “scientists” can know the secrets of science) – Steve McIntyre has caused quite a stir. The commenting is extremely vitriolic and reminds me more of road rage than anything else! It’s easy to see how wars (at least old fashioned wars) get started.

But for me (and I repeat myself), it really matters not a bit whether global warming is anthropogenic or no – because it should be self evident to anyone who thinks - that our modern post-industrial world is not about to reduce its carbon emissions one iota. At least not willingly. It ain’t gonna happen even if every last soul of the six and half billion hanging around were on board with the AGW thesis.
